Breaking the “Because I Said So” Habit
Ever catch yourself saying “Because I said so”? I used to think it was harmless… until I realized it shut my kid’s curiosity down cold.

We’ve all been there. Your child asks “Why?” for the tenth time and you’re out of answers. The old standby pops out: “Because I said so.”
The problem with that? That shuts down curiosity instead of feeding it.
Next time, try giving a short, age-appropriate reason, even if it’s simple: “We’re leaving the park now because your body needs rest.” You’re showing your child their questions matter. It keeps the conversation open and teaches your child how to explain their own decisions later in life.
These little changes teach respect through example. And they stack up.
